Getting Around
A walkable city with a modern transportation network
A flat city built – and recently redeveloped – through careful urban planning, Christchurch is an easy city to navigate. The Ōtākaro Avon River, which bi-sects the CBD, provides a beautiful, tree-lined promenade for strolling amongst the city’s cafes, restaurants and attractions. Distinctive laneways and pedestrian precincts make for an intriguing way to explore the centre city on foot or by e-scooter, while a hop-on/hop-off historic tramway provides a leisurely loop through the CBD’s key attractions.
For travel further afield, Christchurch is well-served by its public transport network, airport shuttle services, taxis and ride-share providers, and even car-sharing apps.
Transport options include:
- The Christchurch Metro network: buses – including several all-electric vehicles
- Taxis
- Shuttles
- Rideshare options like Uber and Ola
- Lime Scooters
