eNGAGe: Empowering the Next Generation at Te Pae
Empowering the next generation
At Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre, empowering our younger employees is a priority, and our General Manager, Ross Steele, is proud to champion this effort. Recognising the value of fresh ideas and diverse perspectives, "eNGAGe" was established to give a voice to our next generation of leaders.
The birth of “eNGAGe”
Two years ago, an annual employee survey revealed that younger employees were less engaged than their older colleagues. This sparked the creation of eNGAGe - a committee aimed at fostering engagement and empowering the younger age groups to share their insights with the Executive Leadership team.
Initially focused on Generation Z, eNGAGe quickly gained momentum, expanding to include young leaders from across the organisation. With clear terms of reference, the group set out to ensure all voices were heard in shaping future of Te Pae Christchurch.
A mutually rewarding initiative
eNGAGe has become a standout initiative for the Te Pae leadership team. Ross highlights, “The meetings are fresh, full of great ideas, and people aren’t afraid to ask tough questions. I gain valuable insights from our younger team members.”
Participants equally enjoy the dynamic discussions, with members praising the platform for fostering collaboration and offering a deeper understanding of challenges across departments. While some changes take time, members agree that eNGAGe is driving meaningful progress.
Key initiatives
Since its inception, eNGAGe has led to significant improvements, including:
- Better communication: Addressing operational communication challenges for smoother collaboration.
- Sustainability: Driving innovative initiatives to advance environmental goals.
- Diversity and Inclusion: Promoting a more inclusive workplace culture that celebrates diversity.
A broader influence
The success of eNGAGe has led to higher employee engagement scores in annual surveys and recognition as an industry-leading initiative. Ross notes, “Other ASM Global venues are planning to adopt similar groups after seeing the impact of eNGAGe and using our Terms of Reference as a guide.”
Inspiring positive change
eNGAGe is a testament to the value of involving younger employees in an organisation’s development. By fostering open dialogue and collaboration, it is shaping the future of Te Pae Chirstchurch while inspiring similar initiatives across the industry.
