Ngā Whāriki Manaaki is a series of 13 weaving patterns that feature within the Te Papa Ōtākaro Avon River precinct. In sequence, they reference the whakamanuhiri (welcome ceremony on a marae) process of welcome for all people visiting Christchurch. Outside Te Pae Christchurch is Piripiri Takitahi – Togetherness. It represents the coming together of people to guide, teach and exchange threads of commonality through whakapapa (genealogy), establishing historical connections and clarifying the kaupapa (principle) of the day.
