How We're Making a Difference

18 December 2020

Supporting Canterbury has always been a driving force behind the decisions made for our business, and we are proud that in such a challenging year the impact of Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre extends far beyond our wonderful venue to support the wider city of Ōtautahi Christchurch and its local businesses.

Amplifying the impact, is our commitment to using local suppliers wherever possible in our operations. This has been achieved through signing a host of local businesses that share Te Pae Christchurch’s enthusiasm for quality and community. Among those are well known Canterbury brands, such as Cassels and Sherwood Estate Wines, right through to small artisan producers such as Poaka, Robinson’s Bay Olive Oil and Charing Cross Cheesery.

Additionally in the building, local manufacturers, such as Remarkable Surfaces in Wigram, have been brought onboard to create the feature ceiling for our banquet space – the Rivers Room – as well as the series of Conway meeting rooms. Aspect Furniture, with branches in Addington and Timaru, is another local business used in the design of Te Pae Christchurch, producing the brightly coloured couches that you’ll see inside our foyers.

Further putting Christchurch and Canterbury on the world stage, the design of Te Pae Christchurch is a direct reflection of Canterbury’s natural landscape, with the braided rivers of the region serving as inspiration for the entire centre; including our internal ceiling which curves around the building and continues the flowing river theme established by the herringbone tiled façade.

Another design feature which has used Canterbury as inspiration are the timber-lined meeting rooms, designed to reflect the Aoraki narrative of Tuterakiwhanoa, Kahukura and Marokura who each contributed to the formation of the Canterbury region.
