Te Pae Christchurch unveils permanent Quiet Space to support accessibility and wellbeing

Te Pae Christchurch is proud to announce the opening of its permanent Quiet Space, a dedicated space designed to provide a calm, low-stimulation environment for guests who may feel overwhelmed, anxious or in need of a moment away from the activity of an event.

Created with accessibility, inclusion and wellbeing at its heart, the Quiet Space offers guests a peaceful place to reset and recharge before returning to their event experience. The space reflects Te Pae Christchurch's ongoing commitment to ensuring every visitor feels welcomed, supported and able to participate comfortably in events held at the venue.

The project was led by Te Pae Christchurch's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee and has been a long-term initiative driven by passionate team members who recognised the importance of providing a dedicated retreat within the convention centre. The Quiet Space is another step forward in creating an environment where all guests feel safe, respected and cared for.

To ensure the space meets the needs of those who will benefit from it most, Te Pae Christchurch worked closely with Autism New Zealand throughout the development process, from initial concept through to completion. Their guidance helped shape a space that is both practical and welcoming, providing a supportive environment for individuals who may experience sensory sensitivities or require a quiet place to pause during their visit.

Thoughtfully designed to create a soothing atmosphere, the Quiet Space features soft-touch furnishings, calming lighting, including a bubble lamp, a memory foam Tahiti Mat and a selection of fidget toys. Every element has been carefully considered to help guests feel comfortable, supported and at ease while using the space.

For guests who require additional sensory support, noise-cancelling headphones and earmuffs are also available to use while in the Quiet Space. These can be requested through Te Pae Christchurch's reception team, subject to availability.

At Te Pae Christchurch, manaakitanga sits at the heart of everything we do. The Quiet Space is a meaningful addition to the venue, helping ensure more people can enjoy and participate in events with confidence and comfort. By creating spaces that respond to a diverse range of needs, Te Pae Christchurch continues to strengthen its commitment to accessibility, inclusion and exceptional guest experiences for all.
