Christchurch medical experts will be centre stage at Te Pae Christchurch during the Aotearoa New Zealand Anaesthesia Scientific Meeting, taking place from 3-6 November 2021.
The theme for the 2021 meeting is Whakaora (To Heal): Our patients, Ourselves, Our City, Our Planet. A theme which particularly resonates with our city, given the events Christchurch has been through since the last anaesthetic meeting was hosted in Christchurch in 2010.
While front line experiences from events such as the Christchurch earthquakes and the Whakaari/White Island eruption (Christchurch received burns victims from the eruption) will be shared, the conference will also look in depth at the latest research to help conference attendees care for their patients – and themselves – more effectively.
There are three organisations overseeing the event – The New Zealand National Committee of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA), the New Zealand Society of Anaesthetists (NZSA) and the New Zealand Anaesthetic Technicians’ Society (NZATS).
The organising body is expecting to attract upwards of 400-500 delegates, of which about 300-350 will be anaesthetists (doctors) and about 150 anaesthetic technicians. While a large number will be travelling from across New Zealand for the event, organisers are also expecting a good Australian and international contingent to attend.
